What is "The Scene Archives"?
The Scene Archives was the biggest collection of Amiga Scene Related Material in the world (at that time). At the time when The Scene Archives was discontinued, it contained 11,198 floppy disks (over 18,000 individual titles) worth of Amiga Scene Material!

So how Big is it all?
"The Scene Archives was released on a CD Basis, and there were officially 11 Volumes (Plus a Best Off Edition). I nearly finished the 12th Volume, but never did :( . At the end there where 15 CD's. (Volumes 1-11 and the Best of). From Volume 9 and on-wards, they were published with the help of APC&TCP.

Why would anyone be crazy to Collect all of this?
Well.. this is the hardest question.. I sometimes wonder why myself. But When I reached 4000 disks, I thought I had all the demos that there was !!.. Boy I was so wrong.. Once i finished, it has nearly tripled this figure, and never ending up no-where near to getting every single piece of Amiga Scene History.. (But I think i got quite close)

What type of stuff is on there?
I have decided to break up the Scene Material into 11 distinct types. Otherwise you wouldn't know what anything is. At least this way, you have some idea ?? of what it is. The Classifications are :-

The Scene Archives Classifications
Type Meaning Example
Animation This is an animation. Basically like a cartoon Any Eric Schwartz Animation
Demo Packs These are a collection of various items, which is on one disk, with a spiffy menu. Some people really hate these demo packs, but I think that they are very important as they sometimes have nice small productions on it. Infestation Pack from Scoopex
Dentro/Demo I count this as a production which is in one file and this also contains BBS Intros. Clairvoyance/Absolute
Digis This is just digitized Music or comedy sketches Safe Sex by The Web Inc.
Intro These are usually small, one part productions. Generally used for an intro to cracked Games Any Crack Intro
Magazines A digital magazine. Basically a mag on your computer Eurochart Magazines
Menus These are just menus that are used for demo packs Any Demo Pack Menu
Miscellaneous Things that don't fit elsewhere Demo HD Installers
Music Demos Productions with music as the main feature Bass-o-matic by Crusaders
Slideshows Productions with graphics as the main feature. Wild by Anadune
Trackmo This is a really large demo that has usually a lot of really cool effects.. These are the best :-) Tint by The Black Lotus

How do I use these CD's?
Well, that is simple, I have written a program called "Scene Archives Search Utility" (SASU) which made life a lot easier when using The Scene Archives. Basically you could search by group, name or disk number, and then it would find out on what disk the item you were searching for was on, and then gives you an option of extracting the files from that particular CD. You can Download the latest version (v1.09) if you want.

What happened to "The Scene Archives"?
I have released the whole archive on to Scene.org at the beginning of 2005, so you can now leech the whole lot if you want to. I also will add a separate Gallery too show off all the different covers and things related to the Series.
